The benefits of aluminum parts machined by CNC turning
There are a number of reasons why aluminum parts machined by CNC turning are superior to alternatives. Perhaps the biggest is that it’s much easier to ensure the accuracy of each processing surface of the workpiece. During processing, the workpiece will rotate around a fixed axis, and every surface has the same axis of rotation, ensuring coaxiality (the tolerance for how closely the axis of one cylinder is to another) between the processing surfaces.
The second is that the cutting process is relatively stable. Except for intermittent surfaces, the lathe machining process is generally continuous, unlike milling and planing. During one pass, the cutter teeth will cut in and out multiple times. What’s more, aluminum parts that are machined by CNC turning are suitable for finishing non-ferrous metal parts. Aluminum belongs to non-ferrous metal and it has a low hardness and good plasticity. It is difficult to obtain a smooth surface by other processing methods. Finally, the turning tool is the simplest type of tool. It is easy to manufacture, sharpen and install. It is easy to choose a reasonable angle according to specific processing requirements, and aluminum is the preferred metal.
How we process aluminum at Weimi
Pure aluminum is easy to process, has good corrosion resistance, and can be made into various profiles. Due to its low strength, it’s not suitable for structural materials. Aluminum alloy is formed by adding certain elements to the basis of pure aluminum. It has high strength and excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. The most commonly used materials at Weimi are aluminum 6061 and aluminum 6063, and we select the most suitable processing materials for customers based on the role of parts and customer requirements.
When processing aluminum, we use a drawings analysis to formulate the processing plan. We then carry out manual programming and automatic programming using a mathematical process, writing parts processing, and programming inspection methods. As the machining objects of CNC lathes are mostly rotary bodies, three-jaw chuck fixtures are generally used, and the selection of lathe tools is a very important part of the process. We use different tools according to different shapes, and optimize clamping positions to extend the life of the tool.
