Working With Aluminium Machined Parts

Aluminium alloy is the most widely used type of non-ferrous metal structure material in the industry. Weimi often processes 6 and 7 series of aluminium (mostly grades 6061 and 6063). These are the two most commonly requested by our customers, though there are other alternative options we can source for you. If you’re unsure which type of aluminium would be best suited for your project, we can also help you choose and provide our recommendations depending on the strength of the materials you require. We have many years of experience in the industry and we’ve worked with clients across the world – giving us a unique insight into the requirements of projects just like yours!

Aluminium is characterized by its small density. Although it is relatively soft, it can be made into various aluminium alloys, such as hard, super-hard, rust-proof, and cast aluminium. These aluminium alloys are widely used in the transport industries and are commonly used in the manufacture of aircraft, automobiles, trains, ships, and more. What’s more satellites, space rockets and shuttles also use lots of aluminium alloys.

The conductivity of aluminium is also lower when compared to silver, copper and gold, which can be a benefit based on your project requirements as it’s cheaper and lighter to work with. The oxide film on the aluminium surface not only can resist corrosion but also has a certain degree of insulation. Aluminium has a wide range of uses in commercial electronics, electrical appliance manufacturing, and also in the wire, cable, and radio industries.

Aluminium is a great heat conductor: its thermal conductivity is three times greater than that of iron. Aluminium can be used to make various heat exchangers, heat dissipation materials, and cookers. It also has better ductility and can be used for producing aluminium wires and bars.

The surface of aluminium also has a dense oxide protective film which makes it more difficult to corrode and makes the metal resistant to some common corrosive substances. This is why it’s often used to manufacture chemical reactors, medical equipment, and freezers.

To prepare the materials for use, they often need to be machined. Machining means that the material has been turned and milled, and we often control this stage with a computer rather than working on the metal manually. This allows us to achieve a perfect finish every time and speeds up the process. Here are some of the other benefits and advantages of CNC machining:

– Helps to improve production efficiency and shorten the manufacturing chain process. Turn-milling composite processing can achieve all or most of the processing procedures in one installation, thereby greatly shortening the product manufacturing process chain. This also means the production assistance time is also shortened as less time is required to change the mounting types, clamps, and more. Similarly, the manufacturing cycle and the waiting time of the tooling fixture are also reduced, which can significantly improve production efficiency.

– Reduces the number of clampings and improves machining accuracy, thus also reducing the chance of damage or handling defects. This helps to reduce the errors that may be caused by changing the positioning of the part. At Weimi, we’re also proud to consistently achieve the perfect completion of products (including any finishes where applicable) within the shortest time possible and always within the project’s deadlines.

What’s more, most of the aluminium machined parts produced by our company do not require surface treatment post-production as our state-of-the-art machinery is able to create a perfect finish on all machined parts as part of the production process. This also saves time and ensures our clients get their products faster!

Of course, we always work to bespoke specification for all of our projects, so if you require a textured finish or colour application we’d be more than happy to assist.
